Tony O’Donnell

Bio

Tony O'Donnell is currently Director of Engineering at Meta. Prior to this, he was Vice President of Engineering at Shutterstock and the Site Lead for the company’s Irish office. At Shutterstock, Tony's work focused on the application of advanced analytics, machine learning and computer vision to the automated processing and cataloguing of digital assets, as well as developing real-time technology solutions  to serve the world’s biggest media organisations.

Tony holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a PhD in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin, where he is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Design in the School of Engineering. He is also a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of Engineers Ireland.

Prior to Shutterstock, he held senior roles at SAP, Infosys and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and he has worked across multiple industries including financial services, publishing, public services, computer games and education. He also holds multiple patents in cloud computing, analytics, data integration and the semantic web.

Additionally, Tony is a member of the Board of Technology Ireland, Ibec’s Digital Economy Policy and Innovation Policy Committees, the Advisory Board to the School of Engineering at Trinity, the Smart Futures Industry Advisory Board and the Third Level Computing Forum. He is also chair of the Academic Council for the national tech apprenticeship programme, non-executive chair of the board of CCT Dublin and a former chair of the Engineers Ireland Computing Division. From 2009 to 2014, he served as a member of Kildare County Council, and spent several years on Kildare GAA’s County Hearings Committee.
